Short Summary

As a member of the IT Shared Services team of Canada Lands Company (CLC), the Network Support Analyst provides assistance to the Network & Security Administrator on key projects including the installation, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance and upgrades to various network hardware and software components. The analyst also provides assistance in maintaining a portfolio of the Company cyber security threat prevention and response systems. Further, the analyst provides Tier 2 escalation support to resolve more complex user issues requiring detailed systems and applications knowledge. The analyst is expected to provide contributions to multiple IT projects throughout the course of their duties and lead smaller network and infrastructure initiatives as assigned. This role will be based out of Toronto or Montreal but will be required to provide support to IT initiatives and end user communities at other Canada Lands Company locations.

Job Description

Networking/WiFi 

  • Monitor and analyze network performance across the organization’s local area network (CN Tower and Real Estate offices), wide area network (CLC Canada-wide), and wireless deployments, test network performance, recommend enhancements and provide statistics and reports to Network & Security Administrator and Senior IT Management. 
  • Monitor system capacity to determine its effect on performance and recommend enhancements to meet new or changing network demands. 
  • Install and configure all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, wireless access points, hubs, and so on. 
  • Act as subject matter expert for wireless network, including controllers, access points, authentication servers and reporting. 
  • Maintain operating systems and supporting software or applications associated with wireless network (WLAN) operations. 
  • Conduct site surveys to determine optimal locations for wireless access points and other wireless network components; ensure access point signals overlap for continuity purposes, with minimal interference. 
  • Inspect, maintain, coordinate and where necessary replace network cabling (optic fiber or copper), voice/data jacks, and other network-related equipment, for the CNT or OPM property. 
  • Under direction of the Network & Security Administrator, perform network and server improvements, upgrades, and repairs. 
  • Perform and test system backups and recoveries including regularly scheduled Disaster Recovery tests. 

 

Network Security

  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of an assigned portfolio of security systems and their corresponding or associated software that provide cyber-threat and cyber-attack prevention, including firewalls, intrusion detection & prevention systems, device encryption systems, web-filtering and anti-virus software. 
  • Participate in the scheduling of activities to apply fixes, security patches, incident response procedures, and any other measures required in the event of a security breach or identified high-risk cyber security vulnerability. 
  • Perform deep analysis of server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, and network traffic based on escalations from IT peers and Company partners. 

 

End User Hardware and Software Management 

  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, mobile devices, software/mobile apps and networked peripherals/IoT (Internet-of-Things) devices. Includes creation of automated software packages using Microsoft tools (SCCM – System Center Configuration Manager) for software installation/updates and for imaging of new hardware. 
  • Via automated or manual tools, maintain and support software patch management, software distribution, operating system deployment, network access protection and hardware and software inventory updates. 
  • Act as the lead resource for management of end-user mobile devices via Microsoft endpoint management tools (Intune). 
  • Provide support for Exchange Online and mailbox migrations. 
  • Administer end user accounts, permissions, and access rights, where escalated to Tier 2 support. Additionally, respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding network, storage array, and physical and virtual server problems. 

Qualifications

  •  A relevant college diploma or university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering is preferred, or equivalent experience 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Information Systems role, coupled with a minimum of 1-2 year of network and cyber security threat prevention maintenance experience 
  • The analyst has received or is working towards an appropriate networking and/or cybersecurity designation (e.g., Microsoft CSE, Network Associate, CISSP) 
  • Working technical knowledge of current network and communications hardware, operating systems, protocols, standards and firewall intrusion detection and prevention is required  
  • Hands-on network and cyber infrastructure management and problem-solving experience 
  • A general understanding of the management of technology infrastructure environments. Includes both physical hardware and operating system software employed in the operation of virtualized and physical servers, storage area networks, local area networks, data protection (backup), replication and recovery, firewall, threat protection and WiFi 
  • A basic hands-on knowledge of the configurations and management of VMWare, MSExchange, MS-System Center Configuration Manager and Checkpoint firewall solutions. 
  • A thorough understanding of personal computing, mobile device management, point-of-sale, printers and the software components for each, is essential.
