Title:  Maintenance Mechanic

Short Summary

Responsible for repair and maintenance of Tower owned mechanical equipment, and for the completion of scheduled work requisitions under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.  Responsible for repair and maintenance of all plumbing fixtures, inspection, installation and repair of all piping systems within the Tower.  General mechanical knowledge providing the department the flexibility of varied work assignments while providing preventative/predictive maintenance.  Observes established procedures and use of equipment and tools.

Job Description

  • Install, maintain, dismantle and overhaul machinery.
  • Maintain and repair pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
  • Interpret plans and blueprints, do installations, do overhauls and repairs which require the use of hand tools and power tools.
  • The use of welders, drill presses, brakes and grinders may be required to make customized parts.
  • Completing routine tasks, such as lubrication of machinery, seal replacement and cleaning of parts during an overhaul.
  • Observe accepted procedures in the care and use of equipment and tools.
  • Observe all safety regulations and practices.
  • Complete maintenance schedule and work requests.
  • Observe all applicable regulations and codes made under the Provincial and Federal statutes and Municipal by-laws.
  • Trouble-shoot all mechanical and electrical equipment thru out the building.
  • Report immediately unusual hazardous circumstances or deficiencies.
  • Replace and repair of tower pumping systems.
  • Provide maintenance and repairs mechanical equipment, fan units, air conditioners, and kitchen equipment.

Qualifications

  • Possess in good standing, a valid Industrial Millwright License or Relevant trade’s license or working towards trade licence
  • Relevant post-secondary diploma or certificate in Building Technologies or equivalent is preferred.  
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of related experience in repair and installation of mechanical equipment is preferred.
  •  welding experience using tig, arc and brazing if preferred
  • Knowledge of building technologies, maintenance and WHMIS is required.
  • Knowledge and experience completing plumbing and repairs.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.

Working Conditions

Work involves medium exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Must be able to work in a physical capacity requiring extended periods of standing, moderate lifting, pushing, pulling, bending and reaching.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions (including but not limited to cold and hot weather)
Ability to crawl, climb (i.e. a ladder), enter confined spaces and work at heights.
Department uniforms are provided to protect personal clothing from wear and damage. Approved uniforms are to be worn during working hours. Dress codes are in effect as per the standard policy and procedure.
