Title:  Human Resources Advisor

Short Summary

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this role will act as a general portfolio manager in one or more core Human Resources (“HR”) disciplines, interfacing with the organizations leadership team to advise, counsel, and provide direction on all HR related matters, translating corporate HR strategies and expectations into operational initiatives and activities.          

While leveraging resources within the shared services HR team, this incumbent will act as an HR leader for performance management, recruitment and selection, employee and/or labour relations, policy and procedure development, HR systems, and compensation and reporting. As well, direct client service support for assigned portfolio groups of approximately 260 union employees.

Job Description


  • Advises, consults and coordinates with organizational leadership teams on human resources issues, including:
    supporting management throughout the employee relations cycle;
    providing counsel, coaching and advise on interpretation and application of the Company’s policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Leads internal workplace investigations and make recommendations to the Director, Human Resources for consideration pertaining to employee and/or labour relations issues.


  • Establishes and implements Corporate performance management programs
  • Leads, supports and/or monitors the CN Tower’s Performance Management software on a continual basis.  
  • On-going coaching through the annual Performance Management Review (PMR) process and objective setting


  • Supports the Human Resources Associate in the orientation and onboarding training
  • Recommends and implements development solutions that align with the Corporate business approach and HR strategies and objectives
  • Supports the administration and maintenance of the third-party eLearning training system
  • Develops and facilitates in-house training programs as necessary


  • Review and approve, in cooperation with the Director, Human Resources, all recruitment initiatives, directing the Human Resources Associate accordingly.
  • Ensures the recruitment strategies remain relevant, ensuring the Company can attract and retain qualified and talented employees. 
  • Ensure all employment contract templates are up-to-date.
  • Communicates with current and prospective employees with information about Company policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, and opportunities for promotion 
  • Review Company Job Descriptions and update as required, including recommending changes to adequately reflect evolving roles


  • Supports the Director, Human Resources in creating, reviewing, and analyzing annual merit increase data, respective matrix charts, to align with corporate policies, budget and external salary surveys
  • Supports the Director, Human Resources in creating, reviewing, and analyzing annual bonus incentive payouts, considering Corporate policy, employee eligibility, personal performance ratings, and Hay Grade positioning.


  • Manages, implements and monitors the Employee Recognition (High Five) Program
  • Manages, implements and monitors the Service Award Programs for the CN Tower
  • Champions employee resignation / retirement celebratory events as appropriate
  • Manages relationships with third party providers, including pricing, shipping, quality, billing, etc. for the Employee Recognition program


  • Conducts the periodic review of the Company’s policies and Standard Operating Procedures (“SOP”)
  • Review CN Tower policies against CLC policies; recommend modifications and work with other HR team members to incorporate the revisions or implementations of new or existing policies/programs
  • Ensure policies reflect changing legislation as well as Company culture


  • A post-secondary education in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of related Human Resources experience is required
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation in progress or achieved is an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human resources and health and safety principles and applicable legal and regulatory guidelines is required, including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Human Rights Code (HRC), Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and other applicable regulations 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with an HRIS (i.e. Workforce Now) is preferred
  • Must be proficient in standard MS office software and equipment.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary teams and the ability to balance a wide variety of priorities with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated flexibility, organizational and time management skills.
  • Advanced problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, facilitation and investigational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to find opportunity for improvement.
  • Ability to build trusting, respectful and positive working relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
